get a lawyer
« on: May 09, 2012, 10:55:21 PM »
It sounds pessimistic, but there really are situations where the only option in Munich is to get a lawyer.

Too many times I've heard stories from people where they tried and tried to resolve a situation that would've worked more easily in their country of origin. The unavoidable truth is that sometimes the only way to manoeuvre a situation here is with legal counsel.

Anyone have any horror stories?

Or instances that worked out because of legal assistance?

Spare no details.

Ken, I've lived here for nearly 30 years and have never needed a lawyer.  I've used a Notar a few times, which has been helpful.  Nearly as expensive, but easier in the long run.

I do know that a large number of expats have the largest need of a lawyer in dealing with their flats.  I do recommend one item to people who come to Germany and rent flats is to join the Vermieterverein.  Regardless of which country you originate, you will find renting flats here and the Mietvetrag to be different in comparison.  They also vary between landlords.  The Vermieterverein is a wealth of knowledge.  And if needed they can provide you with member-recommended lawyers.

On topic, I do hope that no one will ever need to hire for legal advice whilst here in Bayern or Germany.
